Hi, I’m Carrie, and I picked the name of this site because many moons ago I worked at a potato bar in Highland Mall in Austin at the Food Court (back when that was a brand new thing.) It no longer exists, the mall I mean, because they’ve made the whole thing into a campus if you can believe that.

At the time I was 17 and the manager of the place and was so free, confident and alive. After searching online I couldn’t believe this name wasn’t taken and snatched it up. No, we don’t grow potatoes, but we could.

I used to jokingly call myself the Potato Queen, back before folks had usernames, profile name or such. Missed opportunity! I asked my partner what we should call her if I use Potato Queen here at Tater Junction and she laughingly responded Princess Potato. So, there you have it.

We live on 12 acres in Texas and have been deciding what to do with this place. The possibilities seem endless, and determining what to do keeps getting waylaid by living life.

Our parents are getting older and so are we. Our kids and grandkids are pretty much grown as well, but somehow they all still require a huge amount of our time.

I’m a self-motivated starter of many things, but my partner says I’m much slower at finishing them (and putting things away.) That’s what I need her for, is what I tell her. She’s more slow and cautious. It takes all kinds to make the world go around.

Anyway, we are focused in our “free time” on making this place beautiful, organized, self-sufficient and profitable. I bet you are doing the same thing in your own way. We aren’t always sure where to start, but do want to share what we’ve learned with you and hope you will do the same. That’s why we are calling this a How-To Community.
